The Shake It Up Project

Our Purpose
Shake It Up Shakespeare is a website that strives to reach not only students who struggle with Shakespeare and are in need of help with the content, but also to provide a place for anyone who would like to experience Shakespeare in a new way.
This website is unlike other study guide websites in that the primary focus is not to provide content and analysis, but rather to create an environment in which people can fully engage with Shakespeare’s works. We believe that in order to truly understand Shakespeare, the first step is to enjoy it, and then to immerse oneself in it.
Shake It Up Shakespeare also works to provide many different outlets for absorbing the works of Shakespeare, catering to auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners. We incorporate audio video clips, provide multiple mediums through which to get to know the characters and content, and even provide ways to experience Shakespeare outside of the website through events.
Furthermore, the website brings what is often seen as outdated literature from a time that is hard to comprehend and puts the characters and content into the present day, making it easier to understand and less daunting. We literally shake up Shakespeare’s works to fit a new audience.
Overall, in creating this website we strive to maintain a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere while assuring that we do not take away from the content and Shakespeare’s works as the primary focus.

Our Promise
All of us here at Shake It Up Shakespeare headquarters are always considering how to better the site to suit YOU.  We come up with new ideas, ways to fix bugs, and updates to keep Shake It Up Shakespeare as integrated with the current world as possible.
Because we believe in assimilating ALL worlds for best understanding and enjoyment, whether it be your world with Shakespeares or our world with yours, we always want you know exactly what's going on in our world here in the office.
So here, we bring you our plans for the near, and far, future. Check back any time, and feel free to leave your comments and suggestions below!

Current Events
Our skilled current events writer, Marisol Salcido will continue to post updates on all of the current and breaking news in Shakespearean politics, business, and more.  Her conversational style of writing will make you feel as if your friend is explaining the play to you.  Each post she creates will be a continuation of the previous post, so that you have a clear understanding of the play by the time you read the last post.

Gossip
Our hilarious Gossip columnist, Michelle Molin, will keep you up to date on the juiciest stories about the best scandals. Here, you can always keep an eye on your favorite couples and get the best dirt on those people you just can't stand. Each post she creates will fill you in on different parts of the plot, so that after reading all of the posts on each play, you will have the complete understanding of the entire plot! You will be having so much fun you won't even realize you're learning! Become interactive with your favorite Shakespeare characters by taking our quizzes!

Movie Reviews
The wonderful Michelle Serrano will review and discuss all movies Shakespeare related on her page, seeking out every production there is and letting you know what she really thinks about them. She will even be presenting lists of movies for you, such as what movies, surprisingly, are actually based on Shakespeare plays, and what movies stick closest to the real deal.
She will even be posting clips from the movies, to enhance your understanding and let you decide (which we know you will) to go see it for yourself!

Translations
Alysse Rathburn will continue to find out what people in Shakespeare's world have said that YOU find the most confusing, and will explain it all to you so that their crazy words don't get in the way of your enjoyment.

Calendar of Events
We think it is important to experience and enjoy Shakespeare in every way possible: through reading his plays, interacting with his world, and getting the visual and audio experience. That's why we are always on the hunt for Shakespeare related events.
We will continue to find events in California and post them conveniently for you.
We will continue to host our own events.
In the near future we will be branching out and finding events in all states, and eventually worldwide! Keep tuned for this exciting feature!

Facebook
Our Facebook page is a great way to keep up with what is going on here at Shake It Up Shakespeare. We will be updating our Facebook all the time, posting about what is happening on the site, updates that you may be interested in, and new features. Be sure to click that "like" button at the top of the page to stay in the loop!

Twitter
Shakespeare's characters share their life with you, posting what they're feeling and what they have been up to lately. That way you can really get to know all your favorite people - their personality and their life.
Our current participants will continue to add more tweets, and more frequently.
We will be inviting more people to tweet for us in the near future! Who would you like to keep up to date with? Othello? Viola? King Lear? Shakespeare himself? What about Beatrice? Or even the bear who enters the stage in A Winter's Tale? Don't know who they are? What a shame! You will certainly get to know them through their twitters! Keep tuned!

The Website
We want Shake It Up Shakespeare to be a place you enjoy visiting, so we work nonstop on keeping the site as user friendly as possible.
We are always looking to fix any bugs.
The site layout will be updated regularly to remain as appealing as possible.
And all comments and suggestions we receive are considered!

Marketing
It is very important to us here at Shake It Up Shakespeare that everyone get excited about Shakespeare and all the amazing, hilarious, and even dreadful people in his world. So we will be working on advertising for and with other companies, as well as collaborating with marketing sources to get Shake It Up Shakespeare out there and well known.
But don't worry! Future advertising will not get in the way of your viewing experience - we promise that!
